Alien Anthology coming to Blu-ray October 26!!
7.15.2010 22.21
Fox takes a lot of heat from many Blu-ray review sites out there, some it justified, too, but I've always been a defender. They do stumble on occasion ("Predator," for example), but they also consistently provide solid catalog tiles and great new releases filled with reference A/V presentation and stellar goodies that take full advantage of what the format has to offer.
Well, they're only improving so it seems. 2010 will officially bring us "The Alien Anthology" on Blu-ray! And this is one helluva great set, loaded with extras ported over from the nine-disc "Alien Quadrilogy" boxset, plus what looks to be hours of new bonus material including the uncut, extended version of Charles de Lauzirika's making-of documentary for "Alien 3."
Even better, the infamous "Burke Cocoon Sequence" is FINALLY seeing the light of day! That's among a very short list of sought after treasures in the deleted scenes world. Very exciting that Fox is putting that on the disc. I had heard James Cameron destroyed the scene.
So, without further ado, here's the full press release for the "Alien Anthology" - it's a doozy:
ON BLU-RAY, EVERYONE WILL HEAR YOU SCREAM
The Ultimate Collection Featuring All Four ALIEN Films Hatches On Blu-ray from October 26 With Never-Before-Seen Bonus Material And The Debut Of The Exclusive and Groundbreaking Interactive Experience, MU-TH-UR Mode
Fans Have A Chance To Board The Nostromo During Comic-Con At Booth #3528 And Enter The Hibernation Chamber Of The Doomed Intergalactic Crew
LOS ANGELES, CA (July 15, 2010) – Sometimes, the scariest things come from within. Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment presents one of the most successful and terrifying film franchises of all time when the ALIEN ANTHOLOGY debuts on Blu-ray for the first time ever from October 25 internationally and on October 26 in North America. All four ALIEN films have been reinvigorated for an intense Blu-ray high-definition viewing experience. The release also marks the debut of MU-TH-UR Mode, a fully interactive companion that takes the extensive materials in the ALIEN ANTHOLOGY and puts them in the user’s hand – connecting fans to special features on all six discs and instantly providing an index of all available ALIEN content, including over 60 hours of special features and over 12,000 images.
The ALIEN ANTHOLOGY is a truly unique home entertainment experience. For the first time ever, the studio has united the material from every home video release of the ALIEN saga including the 1991/1992 laserdisc releases, the 1999 “Legacy” release and 2003’s groundbreaking ALIEN QUADRILOGY release into one complete Blu-ray collection. The set also includes two versions of each film and over four hours of previously unreleased exclusive material such as original screentests of Sigourney Weaver prior to filming the original ALIEN, unseen deleted scenes, thousands of still photographs from the Fox archives, the previously unseen original cut of “Wreckage and Rage: The Making of ALIEN3,” and much, much more.
The ALIEN ANTHOLOGY will be available for a suggested retail price of $139.99 U.S. / $179.99 Canada. Prebook is September 22.
The ALIEN ANTHOLOGY is just one aspect of Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment’s yearlong campaign to honor the studio’s 75th birthday. This year the division will debut several select fan-favorites on Blu-ray for the first time ever including The Rocky Horror Picture Show, William Shakespeare’s Romeo + Juliet, Moulin Rouge!, The Last of the Mohicans and The Sound of Music.

(Los Angeles, CA) – First Look Studios proudly announces the DVD and Blu-Ray release of the critically acclaimed BAD LIEUTENANT: PORT OF CALL NEW ORLEANS, director Werner Herzog’s darkly comedic interpretation of the of the popular action/crime genre. The screenplay, written by veteran crime scribe, William Finkelstein (“NYPD Blues”, “LA Law”, “Hill Street Blues”), allows for Nicolas Cage’s critically acclaimed performance as Detective Terrence McDonagh to be truly memorable. Roger Ebert of the Chicago Sun – Times gave the film four stars and A.O. Scott and Michael Phillips of “At the Movies” rave, “See it. Cage is astonishing…otherwise you wont believe it.” BAD LIEUTENANT: PORT OF CALL NEW ORLEANS is available on DVD and Blu-Ray April 6, 2010 at an SRP of $28.98 and $29.98, respectively.
In Werner Herzog’s BAD LIEUTENANT: PORT OF CALL NEW ORLEANS, Nicolas Cage plays a rogue detective who is as devoted to his job as he is at scoring drugs -- while playing fast and loose with the law. He wields his badge as often as he wields his gun in order to get his way. In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina he becomes a high-functioning addict who is a deeply intuitive, fearless detective reigning over the beautiful ruins of New Orleans with authority and abandon. Complicating his tumultuous life is the prostitute he loves (played by Eva Mendes). Together they descend into their own world marked by desire, compulsion, and conscience. The result is a singular masterpiece of filmmaking: equally sad and manically humorous. Also starring Val Kilmer, Alvin “Xzibit” Joiner, Fairuza Balk, Shawn Hatosy and Jennifer Coolidge.
